Amit Ruhela and Stephen Harrell, researchers from TACC, presented a talk entitled “Estimating Containerization Overheads on Multi-Petaflops CPU and GPU HPC Platform” at the 2022 Energy HPC Conference, which took place in Houston, Texas, between March 1-3.

This talk focused on containerization technologies, which provide a mechanism to encapsulate applications and many of their dependencies, facilitating software portability and reproducibility on HPC systems.

In their work, the researchers discussed the experience running two-state-of the art containerization technologies on four leading petascale systems, and demonstrated an on-par performance trend at a larger scale on Intel, AMD, and three NVIDIA architectures for both HPC applications.
