The BigHPC project will be implemented over 36 months, and it is structured into seven activities.
Activity 1
Platform Requirements, Design and APIs
Lead: Wavecom
Start: April 2020
End: March 2021
Goal: This activity will do a preliminary study on the current status of the technology being used to manage HPC and Big Data applications and on the requirements for handling these applications.
Activity 2
Monitoring Framework
Lead: Wavecom
Start: July 2020
End: August 2022
Goal: This activity will implement the capability of monitoring a large-scale and heterogenous infrastructure for HPC and Big Data applications.
Activity 3
Virtualization and Application Management
Lead: UT Austin and INESC TEC
Start: July 2020
End: September 2022
Goal: This activity will implement the capability to deploy both traditional and non-traditional workflows in an HPC environment while optimizing the utilization of available software and hardware resources.
Activity 4
Software-Defined Storage
Lead: INESC TEC
Start: July 2020
End: September 2022
Goal: This activity will implement the control facilities for orchestrating storage resources of modern HPC infrastructures, in order to ensure performance isolation, QoS-provisioning, and resource fairness between HPC applications.
Activity 5
Integration, Experimental Validation and Pilot
Lead: LIP
Start: April 2020
End: March 2023
Goal: This activity will support the integration of the software components developed within the project according to the global platform architecture.
Activity 6
Results Dissemination
Lead: INESC TEC
Start: April 2020
End: March 2023
Goal: This activity will define and enforce the communication, dissemination and exploitation of the project’s results.
Activity 7
Project Management
Lead: Wavecom
Start: April 2020
End: March 2023
Goal: This activity will guarantee the progress of the project and the achievement of the project objectives and will ensure effective planning, implementation, coordination and realization of the project activities, including successful completion of the tasks and timely production of deliverables.
